The
opening session is devoted to the main theme of the Conference:
"Intercultural Communication".
There will be a simultaneous translation service into French,
English, Spanish and Catalan.
Ours is an open invitation to speak about Intercultural Communication
from every key speaker's point of view. Our starting point was
to invite a plurality of key speakers (not a single one), women
and men, coming from different areas or disciplines and with different
cultural (and linguistic) backgrounds.
Mr. Federico Mayor Zaragoza, with a long trajectory dealing
with "intercultural" problems or conflicts, alongside
with a strong commitment in favor of culture of peace. Former
Director-General of Unesco.
Chairman of Fundación Cultura de Paz (Culture of Peace
Foundation) seated in Madrid. Catalan-born.
Ms. Rossana Reguillo. Research professor. Working on youth,
urban culture, communication and mass media. Interested on human
rights and communication as a cultural relation. Departamento
de Estudios Socioculturales. Instituto de Estudios Superiores
de Occidente (ITESO). Guadalajara, Mexico.
Mr. Anthony Giddens, sociologist with a wide and influent
work in social theory and in the political field (specially Third
Way politics). Some of his works are dealing with globalisation,
democracy or inequalities, relevant issues for Intercultural Communication
analysis.

Ms. Taslima Nasreen. Writer, with personal experience and
analyses on some conflicts related to "intercultural communication"
problems as Bangladesh and India; Islam and Hinduism; Islam and
Atheism; the fundamentalisms; women and public life or, more generally,
the rights of the women. Public defense of principle's and publicly
reporting on what she thinks to be wrong. Bangladesh-born.
