Planteamiento
The main idea is to explain the media role in three historical moments which happened in the same day but in different years: 1714, 1973 and 2001. The 11 September 1714, the troops of King Felipe V conquered Barcelona and Catalonia lost its legal and political statute used until that date. The 11 September 1973 Pinochet organised a “coup d’état” in Chili, and the most recent, the 11 September 2001 will be remembered for the terrorist attack to the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. These acts affect different national spheres and they present some elements that help us to debate about intercultural communication, central topic of the Conference. The session will be structured in a round table with three speakers – a Catalan, a Chilean and an American professors – that would speak about 30 minutes each one before to open the debate.

Round table
Moderator: Carlos Barrera (Universidad de Navarra and member of the IAMCR History Section)

- Jaume Guillamet, dean of the Journalism Studies at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona)
